On September 11, 2001, firefighter Stephen Siller had just finished his shift and was on his way to play golf with his brothers. When he got word of the World Trade Center attack, he returned to Squad 1 for his gear. He drove to Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, which was already closed. Strapping 60 pounds of gear on his back, Stephen ran through gridlocked traffic from the Tunnel to the Towers ultimately giving up his life while saving others.

 

He left behind a wife and five young kids.
